Just 10 minutes' drive away is the former county town of Wigtown, Scotland's National Book Town. With a range of book shops, you're bound to find something of interest to read here. Wigtown also boasts Britain's largest local nature reserve with many species of birds to view from the bird hide and an osprey visitor centre in the magnificent and imposing County Buildings.
